Experts emphasized that AI-driven tools—often referred to as "robot doctors"—should complement rather than replace human healthcare providers. "AI in medicine is not a threat but a tool to enhance patient care and outcomes," noted Dr. Ehimare Ewere, Chief Resident at the University of Benin Teaching Hospital.
Dr. Ewere highlighted AI’s potential to improve surgical safety, patient monitoring, and resource efficiency in Nigerian hospitals. "AI should support clinical judgment, not replace it," he stressed, adding that AI should be seen as a catalyst for accessible, high-quality healthcare, not a substitute.
He urged Africa to take a leading role in this new era rather than falling behind. The forum underscored that responsible AI adoption—focused on collaboration with human professionals—could address gaps in the continent’s healthcare systems, from rural access to diagnostic accuracy.
